2016 is almost over! So you know what that means–that’s right, Zee is back with me to discuss the results of my annual year-end survey, as filled out by you, the listeners! What older anime titles were you excited to buy (again) this year, and what titles are you looking forward to coming out in 2017? We also talk about memorable news stories from throughout the year, and titles you wish were back in print. Hear all of this PLUS the winner of the survey giveaway and how grateful we are that this mess of a year is finally over with.

It's that time again!

It’s become tradition that in December, I do a year in review podcast episode. And once again, I need your help! So please, dear listeners, take a moment to let me know your opinions on older anime titles that were re-released this year (among other things) on the survey here! In the spirit of the season, one lucky listener who fills out the survey will be chosen at random to win a special prize (open world-wide!) But hurry–you gotta do it before December 15th. I’ll announce the winner on the new episode of the podcast when me & returning guest Zee (from last year’s Year in Review episode!) will discuss the results.

Good luck, and thanks again for listening!

With all the talk about the upcoming live action Ghost in the Shell movie, what better time to revisit another (slightly less popular) 90s series about a kick-ass cyborg who sometimes questions what it means to be human! My friend Rachel from RachelLovesComics joins me to talk about Battle Angel Alita: the various incarnations, the sometimes surprisingly relevant themes throughout, and even the 80′s style poofy hair (even though it was the 90s.)

I keep forgetting to post this, but last week I was a guest on ANNcast once again! You can listen to the episode here. No real talk about older anime in here, although I do briefly talk about the new Glass Mask "The Glass Mask Year 3 Class D" Anime Shorts that I’ve been enjoying on Crunchyroll. Thanks for having me again!

For some reason, my scheduled Halloween post got  messed up and didn't post on Halloween! ;o; Sorry about that. But I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween!

This month’s episode is another ReView! What is a “ReView” episode, you might ask? Well, it’s my highly-clever (ok not really) title for episodes where I go back and watch an older title I haven’t seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that some time’s gone by. Halloween is just around the corner, and that means lots of media that feature vampires, ghosts, and....mermaids??? How’s that for a unique Halloween viewing choice? This month, I revisit the 1993 OAV Mermaid’s Scar.

Book Review: Her Eternal Moonlight

I was approached recently by the authors of this book to do a review of it, as my podcast & blog are pretty relevant to part of the Sailor Moon experience. Like myself, many of my followers were fans of Sailor Moon since back before the internet was a constant presence in our everyday lives. The idea of a book focused not just on the history of Sailor Moon through the lens of its North American fans, but specifically how it touched the lives of its female fandom sounded quite intriguing. So of course, I jumped on the chance to read this book, and I wanted to share my thoughts with all of you!

With a new Voltron series out now, it seems like the perfect time to go back and talk about not only the original 80s classic, but the entire world of Voltron! Whether you were a fan back in the 80s or discovered it through syndication or Toonami, Voltron was many fan's first anime TV series. And who better to talk about it with than my friend Pat, lover of all things robot related and host of The Cockpit Podcast. Listen as we laugh over the....let’s say “questionable” voice choices of the original show, muse over what 80s cartoon PSAs might sound like if they were still around today, and yes--we even talk about the new Voltron series.

Heather is back! And this time we teamed up to bring you our report on all the cool vintage anime-related panels we went to at AnimeFest 2016--which were surprisingly a lot! Hear us talk about seeing the iconic seiyuu for Lum & Ataru, getting to watch Akemi Takada paint in person, and how Heather is definitely not responsible for anyone’s sanity if they watch Shoujo Tsubaki.

It’s been a while since I did a music-themed episode! And what better guest to have than the host of a music-themed podcast, Nitro of MDisk Playlist, to talk all about the music of Joe Hisaishi! You probably have heard Hisaishi’s work in Miyazaki’s films, but what else has this immensely talented musician done? Nitro & I talk all about it, plus go through some of our favorite tracks by him (hint: it’s nothing from the soundtracks to Techopolice or Parasite Eve.)

Happy birthday ANP!

I noticed that today marks the 3rd anniversary of the very first episode of The Anime Nostalgia Podcast! Wow, has it really been that long?! Thanks everyone for listening & your continued support. I’m constantly floored by all the awesome people who’ve asked great questions, helped me out, been on the show, sent me messages, or left reviews.

And speaking of , if you’ve ever listened to the podcast & are feeling generous, I always love getting emails & comments from you guys letting me know what you think! And I read every single itunes/Stitcher review I get, so if you wanna give the podcast a “birthday present” of sorts, feel free to leave one for it! Heck, if it’s a good one, maybe I’ll even read it on a future episode!

It really means a lot to know people appreciate the work I put into the podcast, so thanks to the people who already have. Here’s hoping I can continue ANP for years to come!

Guest spot - ANNCast!

On Thursday I was a part of a live recording/streaming of Anime News Network's ANNCast! Thanks for all that stopped by or sent in questions, it was a lot of fun! They now have the episode up for streaming/download on their website to listen to! A warning: There's a bit of talk from ANN co-host Jake of a newer anime series that has sexually explicit themes between 4:55-8:43 time marks, so that whole chunk is really NSFW (or possibly not safe for anyone! lol). If you wanna skip straight to talking about older anime stuff, that starts around the 24:21 mark. Thanks ANNCast for having me on the show!

Continuing with my ongoing series here at The Anime Nostalgia Podcast: The Saturday Anime series! Every so often, I’ll be highlighting one of the anime titles that we remember from Sci-Fi Channel back in the 90s. This time I’m joined by Let’s Anime’s Dave Merrill to power through some technical hiccups with our rocket skateboards to talk about a movie that we both loved well before it graced the Sci-fi Channel: Galaxy Express 999.

Next month (April 2016), a brand new season of the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime will begin! So what better time to talk about the classic series & what makes it tick. And who better to talk about it with than my friend & Jojo superfan Zee, as well as special surprise guest, Jason Thompson! Jason is not only a JJBA fan, he’s the editor of Viz’s English release of Stardust Crusaders! Listen as we talk about the many influences of Hirohiko Araki, what went on during Viz’s Stardust Crusaders manga release, and how right now is one of the best times to jump into this 30 year old franchise.

And literally JUST after I finished editing this episode, Viz Media announced they will be streaming the new part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable anime! They also have gotten the rights for the previous seasons, so they’ll also be streaming those soon, and possibly re-releasing them in much better DVD releases than the one WB released, so hopefully we’ll get more details soon!

It may be January, but there’s still room for some holiday leftovers, right? For the first episode of the new year, I have a short podcast episode that’s a little different than my normal “ReView” episodes. Yes, I participated in a Secret Santa this year, and I was gifted a little-known 90s OAV called Demon Fighter Kocho. How’d it go? Well, you’ll have to listen to find out!
