This month’s episode is another short ReView! What is a “ReView” episode, you might ask? Well, it’s my highly-clever (ok not really) name for episodes where I go back and revisit an older title I haven’t seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that some time’s gone by. This month, I'm revisiting one of Tezuka's TV films in a brand new way: New anime publisher SkySet Entertainment has released the 80s sci-fi fantasy film A Time Slip of 10,000 Years: Prime Rose on bluray in America--and they created a full English dub for it! So what better time to both revisit this somewhat obscure classic to see if I still enjoy it, AND to see how the new English dub sounds. How does anime Spock sound in English? Well, let's find out!

This month, I’m going back in time to revisit a Saturday Anime title that I only ever watched once before, and never again, until now--it’s Project A-ko VERSUS! ....y’know, that official Project A-ko AU? Where A-ko & B-ko are bounty hunters? And they live together?.........no, really, that actually happened! I’m serious!! THEY WERE ROOMMATES!!!

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast - ep 95: Lupin III: The First with Tricia

Subscribers! Be sure to go to the blog to read the description easier & check out links for this episode!

Happy 2021! I’m starting the first episode of this brand new year with something a little different. This time, we’re watching a new anime based off a classic, well-loved franchise:
Lupin III: The First! Lupin & the gang’s first ever CG animated film! And of course, I recruited friend & fellow Lupin fan Tricia to chat about it, and all things Lupin. Join us as we give our immediate thoughts after watching it and give a rundown on what we liked and didn’t like about this fresh new Lupin anime & how it stacks up to 50 years of Lupin III. (The first part of the episode is relatively spoiler-free, with spoiler-filled talk starting at around the 46:57 mark and continuing on for pretty much the rest of the episode, for those who don’t want to be spoiled!) Also in this episode: Nazis suck, which movie director should Lupin fight, and is Zenigata a himbo?? Tune in and find out!

Also - if you’re listening to this in a timely manner, you have until JAN 22, 2021 to enter my giveaway with Gkids to win your own copy of the movie on bluray here!! So hurry if you haven’t already!

The holidays are finally over, but it’s never too late to look back on a classic Rankin & Bass style movie, right? This month, the podcast’s first episode on a stop-motion animated feature film: Sanrio’s star-studded fairy tale that’s only VERY loosely related to the original Nutcracker story, Nutcracker Fantasy! (Did I mention there’s a singing Christopher Lee in it? Well, there’s a singing Christopher Lee in it!)

Oh no, we’re talking about one of those dreaded “isekai” shows?! Never fear, this is the 1995 fantasy OAV El-Hazard: The Magnificent World! Join me and Taiiku podcast’s Chris as we try to explain why it’s a tricky series to describe, how somehow an anime released in the 90s has one of the best dubs we’ve ever heard, and lament the fact that it’s been out of print for a decade, because it deserves more love. Also in this episode: Maniacal Laughter! Tangents about the creative process! Shopping at Sam Goody! All with very minimal spoilers! Wow!

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast - ep 67

Subscribers! Be sure to go to the blog to read the description easier & check out links for this episode!

With yet another new Macross TV show seeming to be just around the corner, returning champion Nitro is back again to talk about one of our favorite entries in the Macross series: Macross Plus! Listen as we chat about what exactly made this series stand out from all the Macross series that came before (and after) it, and why it’s still worth watching today. Also discussed in this episode: what Bryan Cranston & David Hayter have in common, how “Roy Fokker” is a fun name to say, and what our ideal date with Sharon Apple would be.

And be sure to listen for a special announcement at the end of the episode!

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means lots of media that feature vampires, ghosts, and....mermaids??? How’s that for a unique Halloween viewing choice? This month, I revisit the 1993 OAV Mermaid’s Scar.

*Small correction: I mistakenly mention Pet Shop of horrors as a Discotek release--it’s actually a Sentai release. Sorry for any confusion!
