The Anime Nostalgia Podcast's Year in Review

image
Last year, I did my first ever Year in Review podcast episode...and a new year means a new one! But this time around, I thought I'd try something different: I want your guys' input! So please, dear listeners, take a moment to let me know your opinions on older anime titles that were re-released this year (and other things) on my first ever survey HERE! One lucky listener who fills out the survey will be chosen at random to win a special holiday prize (open world-wide!) But hurry--you gotta do it before December 11th. I'll announce the winner on the new episode of the podcast when me & returning guest Zee (from last year's Year in Review episode!) will discuss the results.

Good luck, and thanks again for listening!

EDIT: Survey is now closed! Thanks to all who participated. The winner will be announced on the next podcast episode. :D

The conclusion of my Satoshi Kon retrospective with guests Heather and Casey! If you haven't listened to part 1 yet, I urge you to do that first--you can listen to that here. In this part, we talk about the last of Kon's works, his passing, personal memories, and even read some listener's memories about a creator who never stopped chasing after his dreams.
Special thanks to Twitter user Raidanzoup for his email about meeting Satoshi Kon & sharing this sketch of Paprika Kon drew for him!

A special Halloween treat for you, listeners, while you wait for part 2 of the Satoshi Kon retrospective: A short, ReView episode! What is a “ReView” episode, you might ask? Well, it’s my highly-clever (ok not really) title for episodes where I go back and watch an older title I haven’t seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that time’s gone by and I’m a little older. Listen as I fight through some fall sniffles to tell you all about a title appropriate for the upcoming spooky holiday with the 1988 OVA series Vampire Princess Miyu.

After a short delay (sorry about that guys!), the new episode's finally here! Happy 1 year anniversary to my little podcast. (Wow, has it been a year already? Time flies!) To celebrate, I did another episode with my good friend CandyAppleCat (aka Heather), who--if you remember--was my very first guest. I asked you guys to send in questions for us to answer on the show, and our favorite email would win a prize. So listen to Heather & I talk about everything from old anime sight-gags, to cosplay, to dubs that time forgot...and more!

1 Year Anniversary Mailbag Contest!

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED! Thanks to all who entered!

Whoa! The Anime Nostalgia Podcast's 1-Year Anniversary is coming up next month! As a thank you to all you listeners for supporting my humble little podcast, I decided a giveaway was in order! YAY, PRIZES!

So here's the details!
Next month's episode, I'll be reuniting with my good pal and first-ever guest on the podcast, Heather! And I thought it would be fun to go through some of the emails I've been getting at the podcast email, answering questions, taking suggestions, all that fun stuff. Heather will help answer and give commentary, so it should be a fun episode. And that's where you guys come in!

To enter the contest, all you have to do is send an email to AnimeNostalgiaPodcast@gmail.com with something for us to read and answer on the new episode: your thoughts about the podcast, ideas for future episodes, general questions...basically anything related to the podcast and/or older anime! Keep it (relatively) clean, keep it fun and enjoyable, and make it interesting! (You can even ask Heather some questions if you want.) We'll pick whichever email we like the most--will it be the one that's the funniest? The best idea for a new episode? The best anecdote on anime fandom in the 80s/90s? We don't know! We'll have to wait and see what kind of emails we get! BUT HURRY! Deadline for email's will be JUNE 1st, 2014! Any emails after that won't be eligible for the contest, so mail it before then!

And what do you win?!
The winner of the contest will receive a copy of the '09 release of Akira on blu-ray, as well 1 random "vintage" single-chapter floppy-style manga comic, and possibly a few other small random goodies! (Oooooh, ahhhh~)

But before you enter, be sure to read the RULES:
  • For this contest, I can only accept entries in North America & Canada. Sorry, I know I have some listeners in other countries, but shipping can get expensive! I promise I'm working on a world-wide giveaway soon!
  • Comments/reblogs/etc do not count as entries! Only emails to AnimeNostalgiaPodcast@gmail.com will be qualified to win.
  • You have to be willing to give me a shipping address to send you your prize! If I don't hear from you or get a shipping address in 1 week after the winner's announced, the prize will be sent to a runner-up.
  • Please no highly inappropriate emails. We don't mind swearing, but try to keep the content PG-13-ish, ok?
  • If you don't want us to read your full name on the episode, be sure to let me know somewhere in the email.
  • If you enter the contest and win, but do not live in North America or Canada, you will be disqualified & your prize will be sent to a runner-up.
  • All entries for the contest must be received by 9 AM CENTRAL TIME, JUNE 1st 2014 to qualify! Any emails received after that will not be eligible to win, sorry!
  • Any questions, feel free to email/message/comment!
We can't wait to read your emails & record the new episode! And thanks again, listeners, for 1 year of podcast fun. I couldn't do it without you guys! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Before we had things like Toonami and Adult Swim, anime fans spent their Saturdays huddled around the TV watching a block of anime called Saturday Anime on the Sci-Fi Channel (way back in the days when it wasn't spelled "SyFy"). Returning guest Zee and I reminisce about the programing, the impact it made, and yes; even Apollo Smile: The Live-Action Anime Girl.

Join me and my friend, Ranma-superfan Chevelle (or as you might know her on Tumblr, Kappatea), as we talk about things like the history of Ranma's release in America, the struggle of collecting unnumbered $30 VHS tapes, and my horrible Shampoo impersonation (among other things.)

This time of an 80s Sanrio film I rented on VHS probably a million times as a kid, called The Sea Prince & The Fire Child. And since I was already sort of on the topic of well-loved VHS titles, I threw in a mini review of new VHS documentary Rewind This!

Good news, everyone!

Good news, everyone! After a lot of working and tinkering, The Anime Nostalgia Podcast is now finally available on iTunes! I'd been getting requests almost since day one for an iTunes option, sorry it took a while, but hey--when you're a one-person operation, it can be a handful! ^__~ And I'll still be updating podcast episodes here as well as on Tumblr, so if you don't like iTunes, don't worry--nothing's changed! You just have yet another option now.
And speaking of the podcast, I'm working on the new episode right now...I should be uploading it before the end of the month. Thanks again for your guys' support and patience, and I hope you'll all continue to enjoy the podcast into this new year! (Oh and keep in mind that if you do a search in iTunes, it might not come up just yet, since I literally JUST got the link to the podcast. But this direct link should work til you can.)
