The Anime Nostalgia Podcast - Ep 134: Otakon History & Chat with Gerald

Subscribers! Be sure to go to the blog to read the description easier & check out links for this episode!

This episode is sponsored in part by Tokyo Treat! To get $5 your first box of delicious snacks & treats delivered from Japan straight to your door, AND to help support my little podcast, use code "NOSTALGIA" at my link here!

Earlier this month was Otakon, which celebrated it's 30th year of being "The Convention of Otaku Generation". It was also my first ever time attending! So what better time to talk about it's history with fellow podcaster and Otakon veteran, Gerald of Anime World Order! We talk about Otakon's humble beginnings and history (with some general anime con memories), and what we thought of the con now that it's ever closer to reaching "middle-age". So grab a snack and an ice-cold water, and listen in!

Guest Spot - Otaku no Shouzou

I was recently a guest on Chilean podcast Otaku no Shouzou with friend of the podcast Dave Merrill to talk about what being an anime fan was like before the 2000s! The podcast is usually en EspaƱol, but for this, they did the entire podcast in English! It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot about what the otaku scene was like for folks in South America. Definitely check it out! Thank you so much for having me!

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast - ep 69

Subscribers! Be sure to go to the blog to read the description easier & check out links for this episode!

This year, I was honored to be invited to be a guest at Con-jikan 2018! Not only was this my first time being a guest at a con, but also my first time doing panels. So for all you listeners out there that weren’t able to come see me in person, I have some recorded highlights from each of my panels, as well as a little bit of talk on what I thought about the con in general.

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast - Ep 57

iTunes & Stitcher subscribers! Be sure to go to the blog to read the description easier & check out links for this episode!

Before Social Media, before AOL Chatrooms, and even before Geocities Fansites, hundreds of anime fans socialized the old fashioned way: through snail mail! The hayday of anime penpalling is long forgotten, but my long-time friend Mayra is here to recollect how we first met over 20 years ago via penpalling & how it used to be a huge part of how we connected with fans. How’d it all happen? What kind of things did we talk about? Take a break from your Thanksgiving festivities and take a listen as we reminisce on this nearly forgotten pocket of fandom history!

Guest spot - ANNCast!

On Thursday I was a part of a live recording/streaming of Anime News Network's ANNCast! Thanks for all that stopped by or sent in questions, it was a lot of fun! They now have the episode up for streaming/download on their website to listen to! A warning: There's a bit of talk from ANN co-host Jake of a newer anime series that has sexually explicit themes between 4:55-8:43 time marks, so that whole chunk is really NSFW (or possibly not safe for anyone! lol). If you wanna skip straight to talking about older anime stuff, that starts around the 24:21 mark. Thanks ANNCast for having me on the show!

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast ep 06

image

Here's a shorter in-between-longer-episodes ep of The Anime Nostalgia Podcast, in which I answer the "40 Anime Questions" meme that's been floating around Tumblr here and there. I figured this was a fun way for my listeners who don't know me all that well to get a bit of an idea of what kind of stuff I liked, mixed with a little of my first anime titles and personal opinions.

Stream the episode above, or [Direct Download]

If you're more into podcast episodes where I talk to guests about specific topics, fear not--I have another episode just like that (which I'm editing as we speak!) that will be released before the end of the month. So hopefully this will tide you over until then.

(I should note that when I copied down the meme, I apparently got a copy of it where 1 question was accidentally asked twice...it seems to have been revised since then, thankfully. If you want to do the meme yourself, check out the questions here.)

As always, feel free to give me your thoughts and comments on this and for future episodes! Thanks for listening!

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast ep 04

Gundam has been a staple in anime fans' libraries for generations now. But as time goes by, younger fans might not know much about it, or where to even start when it comes to Gundam's library of titles. Well, if you've never tried to tackle the world of Gundam, you're in luck! Resident Knower-of-all-things-Gundam and friend of mine Newtypelady has kindly offered to help explain some of the basics of the Gundam Universe for people (like me!) who might not know much, and want to know more (or for those who do, a walk down memory lane of all things Gundam, then and now). Also featured: laughing awkwardly about the terrible racism of G Gundam, comparing Gundam Wing to Sailor Moon, and singing about Haro.
